What changes over the border

Queanbeyan is New South Wales, so SafeWork NSW makes the rules there, not WorkSafe ACT. Two practical differences worth knowing:

• NSW keeps the ten-square-metre rule. A homeowner there may remove up to ten square metres of non-friable asbestos without a licence. That is legal in Queanbeyan and illegal in Canberra, which catches out people who move between the two.
• The notification goes to a different regulator. Where notice is required, it goes to SafeWork NSW. We lodge it.

Our ACT licence is recognised in NSW under the mutual recognition arrangements, so the same crew, the same gear and the same clearance process apply on either side.
